Disaster Action Team (DAT) April Semester

The first step in volunteering is to attend a New Volunteer Orientation. A list of available orientations can be found HERE. You can sign-up for the disaster semester before attending the orientation.

Our Chapter's Disaster Action Team (DAT) members are the Chapter's first responders to disasters. Teams rotate being on-call and are responsible for responding during the hours the Chapter is closed. In addition, several of our responders have volunteered to be available to respond during the day and are now part of our Daytime DAT. This system enables the Chapter to have responders available 24 hours a day, every day, all year long. All DAT members are expected to sign-up to be on-call on a regular basis, as their schedules will permit.

All courses in this semester are required. If you are unable to attend every course in the semester, you are able to complete the missing course(s) at another Red Cross Chapter. The National Capital Area Chapter and the Alexandria Chapter both offer courses on a regular basis. See their respective websites for registration details. If a course is taken at another chapter, you must bring your course completion certificate(s) to the final day of training.

Before attending class, please complete the Introduction to Disaster Services self-paced online course. It will take about 45 minutes.

You only need to enroll in this semester once - your registration will apply to each day. Upon completion of the entire semester, you will be eligible to respond both locally and nationally to disasters with the American Red Cross.
